Verification of Competency (VOC) – Course Description
Overview
A Verification of Competency (VOC) is an assessment process used to confirm that an individual possesses the current skills and knowledge to perform a specific task or operate plant and equipment safely and competently. This process supports employers in meeting their obligations under Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) legislation by ensuring personnel are competent to carry out designated tasks.
Purpose and Application
VOC requirements are typically site-specific or organisation-specific. If an employer or worksite requests a current VOC for a particular item of plant or task, individuals must complete the verification process prior to commencing work.
This assessment is conducted on individuals who already hold a valid licence, ticket, or nationally recognised unit of competency. It is not a training course but rather a confirmation of existing competency against industry or site standards.
Assessment Outcome
Participants must provide evidence of their current qualification or competency. Upon successful completion of the VOC assessment, a Verification Statement will be issued, outlining:
- The tasks or activities verified, and/or
- The specific plant or equipment assessed
Note: A VOC is not a substitute for formal training and does not result in the issuance of a nationally accredited unit of competency.
